Two Trees

How often do we stop and take the time to really think about a verse's meaning? Unfortunately, not often. For instance, Genesis 2:9 reads:

"...In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil."

Two different trees. Of course God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but the tree of life is never mentioned. Was the tree of life a sign of the Messiah's eventual sacrifice for our sins when He died on a tree?
